The success of this organization lies not only in what we are able to gain from it, but in what we are able to give back. This website serves as a collaboration of the effort, friendship, and success of San Diego State University predental students. We have accomplished unprecedented endeavors this year and have created new opportunities for aspiring dentists at San Diego State University. The mission of the SDSU Predental Club is to provide guidance, practical experience, and assistance with the dental admissions process to students interested in the field of dentistry. This mission is achieved through community service activities, clinic observations, speaker presentations, and workshops coordinated by the officers and coordinators of the Predental Program. Students conduct dental outreach programs throughout our community to provide education concerning proper oral hygiene techniques. Our programs are focused on elementary schools, orphanages, and assisted-living homes. The experience gained from giving back helps us learn to communicate with a diverse populace and develop an appreciation for the knowledge we have and are able to share with others. The club strongly encourages observations through the on-campus clinic where volunteer dentists come in once a week to give free screenings to SDSU students. Predental students have the ability to talk to the dentist about their personal experience and ask questions regarding dental school, the DATs, or owning their own practice. Also, shadowing in local dental offices exhibits the practical side of the dental profession. In class, workshops enhance familiarity through interactive practice of common dental procedures, while speaker presentations promote discussion of specialties, the admission process, and ethical issues. The Preventive Dentistry and Topics in Dentistry classes provide leadership opportunities which we utilize in expanding our ability to become more effective members, leaders in this profession, and active contributors to our community. The Predental Program cultivates the desire to seek out and learn more about the field in order for each student to become more knowledgeable and better prepared. The Predental Club attributes the success of our organization to the enduring support and contribution of all the volunteer professionals and we would like to acknowledge everyone for their continuing support.
