One of the greatest resources the Predental Club provides for its members is the assortment of volunteer opportunities available each semester. Promoting preventive dental education and oral hygiene awareness
throughout our community is a benefit for everyone. The club offers proper brushing and flossing techniques to instill good oral health habits at an early age, lessening preventable oral health problems in the future. The students do so in such facilities as orphanages in Tecate, Mexico, the Home of Guiding Hands residential facilities, SDSU Children’s Center, and Kumeyaay Elementary School in Tierrasanta. SDSU Predental students are rewarded with gaining valuable experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. This interaction improves their communication and social skills preparing them for a wide variety of patient personalities. Students also become more appreciative and understanding of what it means to be a positive influence and active participant of the community. Students develop a sense of
compassion which is an essential virtue central to a profession focused on providing health care services to the public. Volunteering our time and knowledge to the general public is just another satisfying means to express our passion for dentistry.
